Optimising DAX

30th November 2017 - 1st December 2017

Who is it for?

A two-day course aimed at SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Model developers, Power BI users and Excel users who already know the DAX language and want to learn how to optimise DAX formulas for performance.

Attendees need to have a good knowledge of the DAX Language. A prerequisite of the course is the participation to the Mastering DAX Workshop, or having equivalent experience.

What you will learn

  • xVelocity engine internals
  • Hardware considerations
  • Monitoring SSAS Tabular server
  • Reading Profiler traces
  • Understanding the Formula Engine and the Storage Engine
  • Reading query plans with DAX Studio
  • Examples of DAX optimisations
  • Optimising data models and relationships

The course will include hands-on labs.

Key Benefits

The goal of the course is to enable you to find bottlenecks in DAX calculations and to improve performance by using different DAX syntax or by adapting the data model. All the attendees will receive a copy of the new book “The Definitive Guide to DAX”.

This course is run in association with SQLBI.

Trainer

Alberto Ferrari is a Business Intelligence consultant. Alberto has helped several software houses to build complex BI solutions, from the OLTP system to the final OLAP cubes, providing planning hints throughout the development lifecycle. He is an author too, having worked on "Expert Cube Development with Microsoft SQL Server 2008" with Marco Russo and Chris Webb, and "Microsoft PowerPivot for Excel 2010: Give Your Data Meaning" and "The Definitive Guide To DAX" with Marco Russo.

In the extraordinary case where the course is cancelled a full refund will be given to all paid registrants. Crossjoin Consulting will not refund any other amount paid by registrants to other companies, including travel expenses and hotel reservations.
